  • Joseph Pilates in the 1920s created Pilates as a rehabilitation technique, focusing on enhancing movement patterns, fostering body awareness, and building strength. This specialized approach is highly flexible, making it ideal for injury rehabilitation. Unlike traditional Pilates, Physio Pilates transcends being solely an exercise program; it serves as a physiotherapy treatment widely utilized for rehabilitating lower back and hip injuries, promoting preventive wellness, and enhancing movement efficiency in pregnant and postpartum women. Additionally, Physio Pilates has gained popularity as a physiotherapy intervention for individuals grappling with pelvic health issues due to its non-aggravating nature towards healing injuries and its focus on movement control.

  • Engaging in Pilates demands concentration and focus as you navigate through a precise sequence of exercises, emphasizing proper body alignment, rhythmic movements, and controlled breathing patterns. The method underscores the integration of deep core muscles into movements while coordinating various major muscle groups essential for daily activities. This therapeutic approach has proven beneficial in alleviating long-term back or hip pain and providing crucial support during pregnancy or postpartum recovery.

  • The synergy between physiotherapy and Pilates is evident, as both disciplines share a common goal of optimizing movement, mobility, and strength. Physiotherapists, being experts in movement, are naturally inclined towards incorporating Pilates into their practice. Whether you seek pelvic health physiotherapy, pain relief, or muscle imbalance correction, Pilates-based physical therapy offers a holistic solution. At Revival Physio, our physiotherapists work alongside the Pilates instructor to curate a Physio Pilates program that is right for you!

  • Similar to traditional Reformer Pilates, Physio Reformer Pilates emphasizes concentration, precise body movements, rhythmic patterns, and controlled breathing with the reformer. The reformer is a traditional piece of Pilates equipment that looks like a bed consisting of ropes, pulleys, a sliding carriage and springs; so you are able to modify intensity and resistance during the Physio Pilates session. It places significant emphasis on activating deep core muscles while coordinating major muscle groups crucial for daily functioning. At Physio Reformer Pilates sessions, the physiotherapist can work with the Pilates instructor to customize specific exercises to address underlying muscle dysfunctions on the reformer, making it an invaluable tool for rehabilitating injuries and restoring full function, particularly in cases of shoulder, lower back, hip, or knee pain. Moreover, for individuals experiencing physical changes due to pregnancy and childbirth, combining Reformer Pilates with pelvic physiotherapy proves to be a potent strategy for rebuilding core strength and addressing discomforts such as pelvic pain, incontinence, and organ prolapse.
